The Alliance and Empire are the two sides battling for control of the world. In years past, they fought brutal wars against each other, but today, they have settled into a tenuous stalemate. Still, the Empire and Alliance are hostile to each other, and members of one faction are never welcome in the cities of the other.

The six races you can play in the game are split equally between these two sides. Each race has it's own specifics, advantages and disadvantages:

Alliance	Night Elves	Elves	Humans
Empire	Naga	Undead	Orc

Once you have to play with the race of your choise, you aren't able to change this anymore. Therefore the choice of alliance is also definitively. However, you might create several characters, each containing another race.
